Follow the wind and explore unexpected passions with Michelle

We're passionate about inspiring GlideSoul girls to dive into new experiences; At a heart of Glidesou is our belief  that within all of us  the need and power to break free is truly possible.

This week we're featuring our GlideSoul Ambassador,  Michelle Sky Hayward, pro kitesurfer from South Africa. She is keen to share her stories and tips for getting started.
You can read Michelle's interview below!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself:
A:My name is Michelle Sky Hayward and I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I am a professional kitesurfer, writer and social media influencer. I am the 2 x South African freestyle champion for kitesurfing. I love travelling and inspiring others to live their best lives!

Q. What are your favourite GlideSoul products for kitesurfing?
A:I love the spring suits with long sleeves and the full wetsuits, they are perfect for kitesurfing because they keep you warm and ensure that you look stylish too. I also love the sporty bikinis since they are really comfortable and stay in place while kitesurfing, even when you crash! All the products from Glidesoul are great for kitesurfing/watersports since they are high quality but also flexible and comfortable to put on/take off and to perform on the water.

Q. What are your recommendations for girls who have never tried Kitesurfing before?

A:For girls who are interested in trying kitesurfing, my top 3 tips would be: 1. Go for lessons with a certified IKO instructor. Don't try to get a friend to teach you or do it yourself, an instructor is the way to go! 2. When you are ready to buy your own gear, buy a good quality 2nd hand kite and board - it's not worth buying all brand new gear when you are a beginner since you will destroy it anyway and it is very expensive. 3. Be patient. Learning to kitesurf is a process and each person learns at their own speed. Stick to it and know that it will all be worthwhile once you are gliding across the sea!

Q: What are your two favourite spots to start Kitesurfing?

A: Langebaan, South Africa is a beautiful flat water spot with many different schools to choose from and close enough to Cape Town to enjoy some sightseeing and touristy activities. El Gouna, Egypt is also one of my top picks since it has warm, flat water and smooth wind. There are many different resorts to stay at along the coast and makes for a fun holiday!

Thank you, Michelle!!!
